Teaching your little learner letters does not have to be a complicated process! Sometimes, it is best to keep it simple when it comes to your child’s learning. I am going to share a fun and easy way to get repetition when it comes to letter sounds and practicing letter recognition.
What Do I Need?
All you need is a sticky note to practice letter recognition and letter sounds! First, pick a focus letter of the week, whether it’s from your curriculum or a letter your child is having trouble with. Place the sticky note in a high-traffic area where you are likely to see it with your child multiple times a day. Every time you see the sticky note, you can prompt your child, “What letter is this?” Do you know what sound it makes?” If they aren’t able to answer that question yet, you can answer yourself by saying, for example, “This is the letter C! The letter C makes a /c/ sound. Try it with me, /c/!
Then you can get repetition throughout the day without it being too difficult of a task. It starts a natural conversation without them feeling like they are being forced to sit down and practice. If you have some alphabet flashcards, you can also use these in the same way!
Where Can I Place Them?
- On the bathroom mirror
- On the fridge
- By the front door
- By the backdoor
Basically anywhere you will see it several times a day! If you don’t have any sticky notes, click on the picture to order a pack of 6 so that you can place several around the house and not run out.
